About

Hi everyone! I’m Nick and I’ve been playing video games ever since I was a kid growing up in the 90s. Eventually adult life caught up and I stopped playing as much. Now I’ve hit a time in my life where I’m having a blast playing through all my favorite games of that era including all the games I never had a chance to play! There’s just so many cool games from the late 80s and 90s that I never had a chance to play growing up.

I decided to create this website, so I could show off and talk about the games I’m playing through and maybe…just maybe, you, the viewer, might want to follow me down the rabbit hole of games from the past. I hope you’ll come to enjoy this website and if you have any comments or suggestions on games I should try playing or covering then please don’t hesitate to drop me a comment on here (I’ll set up an email address for this website soon).

A quick history of my childhood gaming experiences and consoles

My very first video game console was the Nintendo Entertainment System (the good ole NES) and I was addicted to it like many other kids at the time. One of my first experiences getting to pick out a game for myself was going to Toys ‘R Us and seeing an NES game I thought looked really cool and begging my mom to get it for me. The game was Captain Skyhawk and it was one of the few times my mom bought a game for me that wasn’t for my birthday or a holiday.

Just look at how awesome that cover is! Well I thought it looked awesome as a kid. It was always a gamble picking out games by their covers back then but for once I chose a good one and I had a freaking blast playing it. Some other fond memories of my NES back then was the time I was so excited to start my Karate classes that I ended up not going to my very first class because my friend Chris and I had gotten so far in GI Joe – The Atlantis Factor that we couldn’t pause it…I mean this was extremely important and we weren’t going to let anything get in our way of beating that damn game!

Boy my mom was freaking PISSED when she told me to get ready for that Karate class and I yelled back “But MOM! WE HAVE TO BEAT THIS LEVEL!”

Then one day I came home from school right before our school Christmas vacation to find my NES missing and my mom said she threw it away. It felt like my world had came to an end. Little did I know that my mom had a plan and that she had gotten me a game changing Christmas present for me that year…because when Christmas morning came and I opened up my presents I found this bad boy waiting for me:

My NES childhood received an upgrade to the SUPER Nintendo!

My mom had bought me the SNES version that came with Super Mario All Stars and I played the crap out of that game! Some of my favorite games that I remember owning for the SNES were The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (after spending over an hour at Funco Land I decided to get this one and what a great choice it turned out to be), Donkey Kong Country, Yoshi’s Island, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, and of course Street Fighter II. I hadn’t yet really gotten in to RPGs or SRPGs by then (which is a damn shame considering how many good ones were on the SNES).

Near the end of 1993 is when I was able to get a Sega Genesis and had my first experience with an SRPG which was Shining Force II. That game quickly became one of my favorites and I spent many afternoons after school and weekends playing the hell out of it.

While owning both an SNES and a Sega Genesis I was able to play a lot of great games through mostly from renting them from Blockbuster. Blockbuster was like Heaven because my mom would sometimes take me there after school on Fridays and allow me to pick out a game to rent for the weekend. I’m sure some of you know just how hard it was to go back and forth between the front cover and the back cover staring at the images and praying to the video game God that the game would actually turn out to be good!

When the N64 was released I remember my next door neighbor got one and I was amazed by Wave Race 64 and Mario 64. I couldn’t believe how good those games looked and I was desperate to have one. It wasn’t until I spent the night at another friends house whom had both the new Sony Playstation and the Sega Saturn that I was even more amazed and decided I wanted a PSX instead of an N64. What made me truly fall in love with the PSX was Twisted Metal 2. We played that game all night and had so much fun. I got a PSX with that game for Christmas and fell even more in love with RPGs when I got a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics from Funco Land for Easter after Christmas. Then came Xeno Gears which to this day is still one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

During this time I was also getting a little into pc gaming especially with Starcraft and my addiction to multiplayer on Battle.net (besides gaming, who remembers the clan channel wars with the Blood Angels, DK, i!, etc? ascii bot, massbot, it’s all coming back to me now!). I’ll definitely have to play and post about the older pc games I never had a chance to play because I have yet to play through the Gold Box games.

I did end up getting a Sega Dreamcast (which I remember browsing the internet on especially before school) and a Sony Playstation 2 but by then I was getting older and soon got my first job. As the years went by I primarily spent my free time pc gaming and stopped buying consoles after the PS2.

I’m truly excited to go back in time and experience all the games I used to love and to play all the games I never had a chance to play back in the day. I hope you’ll find some enjoyment in my website and are willing to take a trip down the retro gaming rabbit hole with me.
